The Leeds Centre for Emergency Care & Global Health
Centre for Augmented Intelligence Learning & Technological Integration in Emergency Care.
Transforming emergency healthcare through innovative technologies.
Global partnership. Digital innovation. Research.
CENTEC Global draws on the strengths of the Departments of Emergency Medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and its international networks.
Guided by the values of The Leeds Way, we bring together clinicians, researchers, academics and technology partners. Our aim is to improve emergency care for the people of Leeds and, through our international partnerships, for patients worldwide.

What we do
Each area supports the others. Ideas tested in Leeds lead to research, and research informs the training we share with partners abroad.
CAILTEC
Early-stage VR for rare, high-risk HALO procedures. AI scribes that reduce the time clinicians spend on notes. AI support for detecting fractures, currently being evaluated.
L-EMeRG
Leeds patients take part in national NIHR trials, including studies of head injury and childhood asthma.
cHALO · SACEM · ENLIGHTENme
A network of learning hubs across South and South East Asia and Palestine, powered by our own blended-learning platform.

Why it matters
South East Asia’s 1.8 billion people are served by about as many emergency medicine consultants as the UK’s 69 million. Many of our NHS colleagues trained there. We share what we learn in Leeds as a way of giving back.
Innovation in practice
Our work includes an AI scribe, AI support for fracture detection and a virtual reality training environment.

AI drafts the clinical note for the clinician to check. This reduces documentation time and gives clinicians more time with patients.

We are evaluating AI support for fracture detection in adult and paediatric emergency care. The aim is to reduce missed diagnoses.

A virtual environment for practising rare, high-risk emergency procedures, being developed in collaboration with Dynamic.
