Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Director of CAILTEC
Dr Taj Hassan is a consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Past President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (2016 - 2019). He is the present Chair of the Leeds Emergency Medicine Research Group and Director of C-AI-LT-EC.
Internationally, he has been involved in running leadership training programmes for the International Federation of EM (IFEM) as well as having led in devising and being the Co-Lead on the RCEM EMLeaders programme. He is Chair for Europe on the Board of the IFEM (2016 to date) as well as Chair of the International Faculty of the Pakistan Society of EM. His research interests and passions include the role of technology in decision support, education and leadership development of emergency physicians.
In his family time, he battles with the rigors and complexities of maintaining sanity in the tumultuous environment of 3 children, 2 dogs and a very patient wife!

Chris is an experienced Business Development and Innovation professional with a focus on the translation and commercialisation of innovative biomedical research. He has worked in a variety of positions within the medical device and advanced (cell and gene) therapy sectors with a focus on the development of translational R&D programmes led by clinicians, academics and SME's. Chris has a strong belief in open innovation and collaboration to develop solutions to problems and in developing business and reimbursement strategies in parallel with strong scientific proof-of-concept data at an early stage to facilitate the development of investable propositions. In his career to date he has helped to create and transact a wide range of collaborative R&D programmes with a total value in excess of £60m.
As Director of Operations for Research and Innovation at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Chris oversees the strategic development and operational management of Research across one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK, ensuring research teams within the organisation have access to support to develop research programmes and proactively supporting the development of partnerships with industry.

Hi, I’m Christian, one of the Emergency Medicine Junior Clinical Fellows working in Leeds, having just completed my Foundation Training in Leeds and Harrogate.
Outside of work, I’m trying to fall in love with running, cycling and swimming, having been signed up by friends for a half-ironman triathlon in Summer 2021, having never swum 1.9km in open-water, nor cycled 90km!

Dr Alice Downes has been a Paediatric Emergency Medicine consultant at Leeds since 2008. She has a paediatric medical background and is the departmental lead for safeguarding in the under 18’s.
Alice has been a member of PERUKI (Paediatric Emergency Research in UK and Ireland) since it was established and has established Leeds as a successful research site. We have recently been involved in the national studies Eclipse and CAP-IT and successfully recruited patients.
Alice is a member of the Leeds Emergency research group and cites her interest as Clinical research. Last year she gave a well received talk at the RCPCH conference about the importance of general paediatricians participating in children’s research.
In her spare time Alice enjoys the outdoors with her family and dog.

Dr Najeeb Rahman studied, trained and worked in the UK, obtaining his primary medical degree from the University of Leeds.
He holds a Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance, a Masters in Public Health, and has a special interest in global emergency medicine and humanitarian assistance.
He currently works as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine in Leeds, and is additionally a Trustee of Doctors Worldwide, a UK-based international medical charity. He is additionally a member of the Royal College’s Global Emergency Medicine Committee as well as the Emergency Medicine and Public Health Special Interest Group.

Andy has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine since 2006, working in Leeds since 2011. He has had a wide and varied career and taken on several roles, including lead clinician for Emergency Medicine and educational lead for the School of Emergency Medicine. For the last three years he has been a member of the Chief Clinical Information Officer team in Leeds Teaching Hospitals, helping to deliver the trusts digital strategy.
His other interests and responsibility include medical recruitment, e-rostering, and same day emergency care. Outside of work prior to COVID he could regularly be seen at Anfield watching the Reds play, and despite his short stature runs many miles each year on the roads and fells of Yorkshire.

Having lived and worked in Scotland my whole life, I moved down to the sunnier climes of Yorkshire last year and have spent the last 18 months working in A&E. I'm hoping to be involved in developing clinical pathways that will improve management of patients in the ED.
My main passion outside of work is sport, and since moving down here I have taken up fell running and cycling in an attempt to secure honorary Yorkshireman status.

Originally from the West coast of Scotland, I’ve ventured South of the border and currently call Leeds home. I graduated from Glasgow University in 2018 with an MbCHb and a BSc in sports medicine. I’m working within the LTHT emergency departments and hope to pursue emergency medicine as a career (hopefully with sports medicine as a side project).
When I’m not working you can usually find me running around the hills in Yorkshire (often in some outrageously short shorts). My running claim to fame is racing as a two-man pantomime camel in a 10km on the Isle of Man. If you're looking for a running buddy, let me know!
